Mission and Purpose of SIGITProjMgmt

The mission of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Special Interest Group on IT Project Management (SIGITProjMgmt) is to globally promote and facilitate the creation, presentation and publication of research examining all facets of information technology project management, including pedagogical issues. SIGITProjMgmt will strive to be the global leader in linking and integrating IT project management research and practice.

Positioning of SIGITProjMgmt

SIGITProjMgmt is strategically positioned to bridge the gaps in research covered by current AIS SIGs with minimal overlap. SIGITProjMgmt will provide a global forum for its members, PM practitioners, and other IS/IT researchers to share ideas and experiences that relate to IT project management in all its forms. IT Project management has a rich literature of its own and this SIG is positioned to contribute in that area.

Strategic Plan for Meeting the Mission of SIGITProjMgmt

  • To drive membership and interest in AIS and SIGITProjMgmt due to the interest generated in AIS by a new group of researchers and possibly practitioners.

  • To provide an electronic forum for networking and informing IT project management researchers.

  • To develop a SIG-sponsored peer-reviewed “Information Technology Project Management” e-journal dedicated to publishing IT project management research. In the short-term, the Editors of PMI's Project Management journal, International Journal of Project Management, and e-Service Journal (eSJ) have agreed in principle to consider for publication selected articles (either individually or in a special issue format) from SIGITProjMgmt sponsored conference tracks, workshops, and symposium.

  • To be present in all the four major AIS regions via the conferences (ICIS, AMCIS, PACIS, ECIS). This should facilitate interaction with project management and information systems scholars and practitioners around the world, enhance the visibility of IT project management research, and support research activities.

  • To provide member services that support the development and production of high quality IT project management research.
